SBS is an independently-owned business which is still operated by its founder, Group Chairman and CEO, Michael J. Spencer. Mike has over 30 years international O&G industry experience and has special responsibility toward defining strategy and its impact on client organisations. He provides strategic support and advice for operators, governments and utility companies in the areas of due diligence, technical integrity, strategic techno/economic reviews of O&G and low-carbon, renewable energy projects as well as acquisition planning and field decommissioning.

Mike is a British Royal Navy-trained marine engineer and diver with special operations experience and formal MBA training. He is supported by Co-owner, Wife and Managing Director, Liza M. Spencer MA, BSc, Quality Director, Zoe Leask BA (Hons) and a dedicated, highly-motivated professional senior management team. All of our projects are executed by experienced, degree qualified discipline engineers and project managers, most of whom are Chartered.

SBS is a relationship-based company. Our business is based on trust, repeat business and long-term relationships. SBS delivers the full range of marine and subsea design and development engineering consultancy services that SBS has become known and respected for since its formation and, more recently, ocean energy renewable power generation projects. SBS has developed from focusing its support on UK Oil & Gas Operators in Aberdeen and London, to becoming a truly international marine and subsea engineering project management consultancy with a commitment in recent years to delivering, ocean-energy, renewable power generation projects. Our experienced staff are supported by a dedicated senior management team and full IT and administrative resources of the company, which include contemporary leading-edge application software packages as well as our own, in-house developed software. Our primary focus is on adding value at the front-end of a project and providing robust project management support to clients. We always ‘go the extra mile’ and take satisfaction from knowing we have added value to the client’s projects and helped to improve the safety, cost efficiency, scope and quality of the engineering from the initial concept presented. The SBS role is to integrate its divisional services in order to provide a one-off focused evaluation study or a ‘one-stop-shop’ that can cover the marine, subsea and subsurface aspects of the development, topsides facilities, as well as economic assessments during the concept definition and selection process, through to offshore installation and to integrate these specialist support services seamlessly into Customer development teams. Including our staff, clients have access to more than 600 specialist engineers, safety professionals and scientists.
